About

Located in the Tampa Bay area, the Gobioff Foundation is a private family foundation which works to support human rights organizations and the Tampa, FL arts community. Our grants strengthen the ability of human rights and arts organizations to enrich the Tampa community and improve the state of human rights worldwide so that the world is a better place as intended by our founder. Our mission is not static. It is constantly developing as we grow and our family grows.

History

The Gobioff Foundation was founded by Howard Gobioff in 2007 only months before his sudden death from lymphoma in March, 2008. The only directive Howard left was to “make the world a better place”.

As his family members we feel the best way to honor Howard and fulfill this directive is to continue along the funding path he personally followed. We have two primary funding areas of the Arts and Human Rights/Civil Liberties. These are the types of organizations Howard gave to personally while he was alive.

Funding Strategy

The current funding strategy of the Gobioff Foundation involves the funding of art focused organizations and human rights/civil liberties organizations in the Tampa Bay area. We are choosing to focus on funding art organizations that enhance the cultural landscape of the region through exhibitions and public performances. We are not at this time funding classes or educational opportunities.

We are actively seeking out human rights and civil liberties organizations in the Tampa Bay area. We are looking for organizations that work towards equity, inclusivity, and diversity in all areas.

We currently have two competitive grant programs. Treasure Tampa is a $30,000 grant for creative placemaking projects in Tampa, FL. Our Microgrant program is a $500 grant for individual artists with projects in Hillsborough or Pinellas county Florida.

The Gobioff Foundation is unable to grant directly to individuals (with the exception of our Microgrant progam). Our grantees are non-profit organizations.

If you’re interested in hearing the Gobioff Foundation leadership discuss their vision, you can listen to them on the Inspired Giving Podcast.
